maybelline x gigi hadid lipstick ‘austyn’ review

Can a woman have enough red lipsticks? I bet, the answer would be no, so here I am talking about the much raved about  brand collaboration, that is Maybelline x GiGi Hadid. This collection has been recently launched in India and I was waiting to get my hands on the lipsticks. They have named their collection as east coast and west coast. The east coast has all the nude lipsticks and the west coast collection has the most prettiest of the reds and I had to pick one so I chose the shade ‘Austyn’. Let’s read more about the product below:

My Experience with Maybelline x Gigi Hadid lipstick ‘Austyn’

Packaging: Talking about the packaging, I was more drawn to its packaging than the colour. It comes housed in a powder pinkish nude bullet with the metallic golden outer packaging. The lipstick is very light-weight and easy to carry around. The cap is tightly secured and shuts with a click sound. It is travel friendly and wont accidently open in your purse.

Shade: Since the west coast collection has 3 kind of reds, namely austyn, khair (apple red) and lani (orange red). I chose austyn as it is a cool toned red and the perfect red. It will suit almost every skin tone.

Texture: It claims to have a matte finish but it isn’t matte. It applies smoothly without tugging or pulling and has a creamy finish. It doesn’t even dry down matte. On application, it gives a pretty sheen on the lips. It glides on smoothly and doesn’t dry your lips. It is a comfortable formula and doesn’t feel heavy on the lips. My only issue is that it is not transfer proof or smudge –proof. It gets rubbed with the slightest of touch.

Staying power: It stays for around 7-8 hours depending on what you are eating. Since it is not transfer proof, after eating, it fades away from the centre of the lips but it leaves behind a beautiful strong stain on lips. So even if you don’t reapply, the flush of colour would be there on the lips. Reapplication is not a problem here as it is a creamy lipstick. But it does settle into fine lines and might accentuate the dry patches if you have any, so always exfoliate the lips before applying this.

Pros of the Maybelline Gigi Hadid lipstick ‘Austyn’:

  • Perfect party red
  • Will suit every skin tone
  • Easy to apply
  • Smooth texture
  • Creamy finish
  • Leaves a beautiful stain behind after fading
  • Gives a nice sheen

Cons of the Maybelline Gigi Hadid lipstick ‘Austyn’:

  • It is not transfer-proof
  • It is not smudge-proof
  • It settles into fine lines
  • Price is little expensive considering the other lipsticks available in the market

Will ‘theblushcorner’ recommend it?

It is a beautiful red shade and will suit everyone. If you are a crazy buyer like me and just want every cosmetic under the sun then you must buy it. I am an impulsive buyer myself and I bought it off from nykaa the day it was launched but considering the price point, I don’t want to recommend it because if you compare the shade, it looks very similar to the nykaa so matte lipstick in the shade ‘regal ruby’ 30M which is priced at 399 INR. ( picture inserted for your reference in the end)  I would say that it is not something you would go gaga over it. If you find a shade from her collection which is unique and you don’t have it then it is worth the money.
